Compassion Dyes

In September of 2011, following some service outages while the Account Center was upgraded, players were each given a one 1-charge dye from 4 possible colors. These became known as "compassion dyes".

Note that the compassion dye named 'Phoenix Red' is the same hue as the cleanup dye named 'Vibrant Crimson'.

Cleanup Dyes

From the Clean Up Britannia Program, various new dyes have been made available over time. Each comes with 5 charges.

Haochi's Pigments

The UO game store once sold codes redeemable for a single bottle of Haochi's Pigments. Each bottle comes with 50 charges.

Haochi's Pigments (2017)

New colors of Haochi's Pigments became available in the in-game store in 2017. Each bottle comes with 50 charges.

Natural Dyes

Natural dyes can be crafted in game. They come in the same colors as plants from the gardening system, as well as adding new colors, obtained by combining pigments from two differently colored plants.

Treasures of Tokuno Dyes

There were 3 rounds of Treasures of Tokuno events.

Treasures of Tokuno 1

During the first round of Treasures of Tokuno, you could turn in 10 minor artifacts to get one major artifact. One of the major artifacts was a 50-charge bottle of Pigments of Tokuno dye. Due to their colors, these were generally referred to as neon dyes.

The Japanese UO store later offerred for sale two types of tokens which allowed you to pick one or three of these dyes, depending on the token. Dyes obtained from these tokens came with 50 charges.

Additionally, one of the minor artifacts was a dye simply named "Pigments of Tokuno". During this round of Treasures of Tokuno, these bottles came with 10 charges. These hue 0 bottles act just like the bleach quest reward, and reset the hue on an item back to plain (hue 0).

Treasures of Tokuno 2

During the second round of Treasures of Tokuno, 30 minor artifact dyes and 10 major artifact dyes were added.

The minor artifacts came in 30 different colors, came with just 1 charge, and were simply named "Pigments of Tokuno". They are the same hues as old NPC armor, and are generally referred to as the "earthen" colors.

The major artifacts again could be obtained by turning in 10 minor artifacts. The major artifact dyes came with 10 charges, and are generally referred to as the "metal" colors. It is worth noting that the color named "Coal" is not the same hue as the old Coal gift, or as armor made from those ingots. Also note that the hues for these 10 major artifact dyes were the same hues as 10 of the minor artifacts; only the major artifact dyes were named.

The Japanese UO store later offerred for sale two types of tokens which allowed you to pick one or three of most of these major artifact dyes, depending on the token. For whatever reason, "Subdued Coal" was not made available from these tokens. Whereas the event dyes only came with 10 charges, dyes obtained from these tokens came with 50 charges.

Additionally, just like in the first round, one of the other minor artifacts was a dye simply named "Pigments of Tokuno". During this round of Treasures of Tokuno, these bottles came with 10 charges. These hue 0 bottles act just like the bleach quest reward, and reset the hue on an item back to plain (hue 0).

Minor Artifacts

The 10 minor artifact dyes which also exist as major artifact dyes have been prefixed with a *.

Major Artifacts

Treasures of Tokuno 3

During the final round of Treasures of Tokuno, 10 minor artifact dyes were available. These came with only 1 charge, but were named.

Additionally, just like in the two rounds, one of the minor artifacts was a dye simply named "Pigments of Tokuno". During this round of Treasures of Tokuno, however, these bottles came with only 1 charge. These hue 0 bottles act just like the bleach quest reward, and reset the hue on an item back to plain (hue 0).

Also note, a later client patch changed the names of two of the dyes. Fresh Plum was originally named 'Fresh Peach', and Fresh Rose was originally named 'Rose'.
