These rings were given out in a ritual attended only by members of The Order of the Ebon Skull, an Atlantic Roleplay guild of undead and necromancers sometime in 1998. Seer Oberon handed out a special ring to each sect leader of the guild, numbering 7 in total, named after the characteristics of the sects they represented. The Ring of the Soul represented the wraiths of OES. The Ring of the Shadows represented the assassins, and so on.

The Ring of the Lich Lord was given to the guildmaster, Lich Lord Azalin. All members in attendance were given a Ring of the Skull, for a total of 9 different rings, all unique aside from the Rings of the Skull, of which over a dozen were likely created. These rings were awarded for the deep impact The Order of the Ebon Skull had on global events on the Atlantic shard, as they played a very prominent and present antagonist to the good aligned guilds of the shard.
