Despite the name, this is not actually a map of a "city". It is a map which covers a larger area than a Local Map and a smaller area than a Sea Chart.

The map which is created will be centered on your character's location.

How large an area is shown on the map depends upon your character's Cartography skill:

displayed height/width = (Cartography * 4) + 64

How large the map itself is displayed also depends upon your character's Cartography skill:

displayed height/width = (Cartography * 2) + 64 or 200, whichever is higher
Cartography skill displayed area displayed size
25 164 x 164 200 x 200
50 264 x 264 200 x 200
100 464 x 464 264 x 264

While NPC Cartographers sell local maps with specific names, player-crafted maps will always show "City Map" as the name.

The map which is created also depends upon which facet your character is located. In the past, crafting maps anywhere but Trammel or Felucca would create an # Indecipherable Map. Now, all facets except for Eodon can have maps created:

Facet Result
Felucca (Britannia) large local area map of Britannia
Felucca (T2A) large local area map of T2A
Trammel (Britannia) large local area map of Britannia
Trammel (T2A) large local area map of T2A
Ilshenar large local area map of Ilshenar
Malas large local area map of Malas
Tokuno large local area map of Tokuno
Ter Mur large local area map of Ter Mur
Eodon # Indecipherable Map
