Call me Lady Nocturne. I was sought out by Durga and Kal El in a quest to expand the Counselor program of the mystical world of Britannia. They said there was a great darkness in the world and only a creature of the night could save the Counselors.

My name is Katherine Matthews. I work with Kal El as a Counselor Coordinator for Ultima Online. Our primary objectives at this time are to not only expand the Counselor base, but also try to work on more efficient ways of doing the job at hand, while still improving the customer service qualities of the program. With the player numbers going up, not to mention the addition of international shards, the need and desire for volunteer help continues to grow.

So how did I get here?

For the most part, I was ‘born and raised’ in Texas. I spent a couple of years overseas in Australia, but came back to Houston homesick. My dad, being very involved with computers and programming, made it easy to be absorbed with them. I continued my way through school and enrolled at Southwest Texas State University as a Computer Science major. Technology was, and has continued to be, my passion. From circuit boards to computer and console games, I’ve always demanded the cutting edge.

I started working at Origin in October of 1998 as a Game Master for UO. I’ve watched the game go through a lot of changes during my time here, including a good deal of growth. I had been more interested in being behind the scenes, however. As a GM, I dealt with the volunteer base on a daily basis. It amazed me that the game had enthralled these players so much that they were willing to sacrifice their personal time to help other players get the hang of things. With their help, many players are not only encouraged to play the game, but also to stay in the game. I had talked to Kal a few times throwing around the idea of working with him in the program. He and Durga finally put pen to paper and here I am… thus was born into the world of Britannia, Lady Nocturne.
