2000-08-06: Harpy Warriors Roam The Roads
“Just what is a Harpy Warrior?” I had to ask myself. That is what I thought I heard the town crier talking about. Quickly I asked her to repeat what she had said. “Harpy Warriors spotted on the road between Yew and Britain”, she repeated.
My curiosity having gotten the better of me, I rushed to see just what a Harpy Warrior was. I took cover behind a building at the crossroads and what I saw was very interesting indeed. They looked very much like normal harpies but of a green tint. “How tough are they?” I wondered. It was not long before I found out. It seems that one had spotted me in my hiding place. One hit from this creature was all it took for me to know that I had better get to a safer location. Blood poured forth from my chest where the beast’s claw had torn through my tunic (and I had just had it cleaned too).
Having gotten to a safer location under the protection of the guards, I waited for the creature to leave. Once it seemed it was safe, I came back out and watched what was happening once again (only this time keeping more of a distance). One brave soul was fighting a Warrior. I am not sure what happened to the other one and this had me slightly concerned and looking over my shoulder quite frequently. It took him some time, but the stout fellow managed to slay the evil creature.
It seems that the other creature must have gotten away. I scoured the area for quite a while and spoke with the people I came upon on the road. It seems they had not spotted the creature, although I did spark their curiosity when I mentioned a Harpy Warrior. They had never seen such a creature and were curious to learn more. If only more brave souls such as the fellow that slew the one Warrior had shown up, perhaps the second one could have been slain as well.
Where did he go I wonder? Could he be getting more of his fellows to come back for some reason? What made them appear in the first place? Let us hope that when and if one or more of them show up again that more brave souls are on hand to defeat them.
