Despite the name, this is not actually a "sea chart". It is a map which covers a larger area than a Local Map or City Map, and a smaller area than a World Map.

The map which is created will be centered on your character's location.

How large an area is shown on the map depends upon your character's Cartography skill:

displayed height/width = (Cartography * 10) + 32 or 200, whichever is higher

How large the map itself is displayed also depends upon your character's Cartography skill:

displayed height/width = (Cartography * 3.3) + 24
Cartography skill displayed area displayed size
35 200 x 200 200 x 200
50 532 x 532 200 x 200
100 1032 x 1032 354 x 354

While NPC Cartographers sell local maps with specific names, player-crafted maps will always show "Sea Chart" as the name.

The map which is created also depends upon which facet your character is located. In the past, crafting maps anywhere but Trammel or Felucca would create an # Indecipherable Map. Now, all facets except for Eodon can have maps created:

Facet Result
Felucca (Britannia) huge area map of Britannia
Felucca (T2A) huge area map of T2A
Felucca (dungeons) # Indecipherable Map
Trammel (Britannia) huge area map of Britannia
Trammel (T2A) huge area map of T2A
Trammel (dungeons) # Indecipherable Map
Ilshenar entire world map of Ilshenar
Malas huge area map of Malas
Tokuno entire world map of Tokuno except a small part at the top
Ter Mur entire world map of Ter Mur
Eodon # Indecipherable Map
