Interview with IGM Talos

Why the name Talos?
When I was younger I travelled around some of the Greek Islands, and during a visit to Crete I learned of the story of Talos. Talos was a giant man made entirely of Bronze, whom Zues the king of the Gods gave to Europa, his mortal woman, to protect her. As one of my shards is Europa, I use this name as it fits nicely with the story. =)
What is your job?
I am the European Interest Games Master, which means I design and build new locations, fiction and events within Ultima Online. Another large part of my job is overseeing the interest volunteer network, working alongside a very talented bunch of people, with the key goal of making Britannia as entertaining and welcoming a place as possible.
What`s the best part of your job?
When I run an event or implement a new location within the game and I see players say `Wow`, this always makes my day. =)
And the worst?
The worst part of my job is probably dealing with people whose greatest form of entertainment is ruining the enjoyment of the game for other people.
What would you be if you weren`t working on UO?
I used to be a pilot in the Royal Air Force, and flying is what I would try to get back into most probably. =)
What has been your favourite event so far?
I am usually `behind the scenes` during events, with interest volunteers playing characters during most events I run. Almost all events are great fun to run, and it would be very difficult to pick a favourite. I can think of a few, but the players do not know that I was the one playing that particular event character, and I don`t want to spoil the illusion. *wink*
What`s in your backpack at the moment?
3 ornate lamposts, a packhorse, a small crumbling wall section, a gargoyle`s head, and a butcher`s knife. Its best not to look into an IGM`s backpack, you may need counseling afterwards.
And your favourite band/tune?
I like such a mixture of music that its always hard to pick one favourtie, in my car I have CDs from Lenny Kravitz, Creed, various trance and house/garage compilations, and some other more clubby style albums. If anyone had to judge what type of person I was from my CD collection, they would probably label me a schizophrenic. =)
In a film of UO, who would play you?
The guy who played the Emporer in Star Wars, hes already got my robe so thats one less job for the wardrobe department.
