When considering where to spend a 2 night town break, some people like to choose somewhere close to the hustle and bustle of a main thoroughfare. Brochures this time of year sparkle with the urban sprawl and ancient architecture of Britain but often overlooked are the little towns full of peace and quiet. I went to Cove for a weekend to experience it`s pretty as a box of chocolate splendor and see if I could try my hand at the local arts and crafts.

Accommodation is key during a short break - Cove offers plenty of self catering and actually has NO hotels or Inns at all. So be prepared - self catering really does mean a tent in the cabbage fields or sleeping in the haylofts. Some people have found that with luck, there are some reasonably cosy huts sometimes free. These are allocated on a first come first served basis and you do have to ensure that you can keep the town owners out either with bribery or the very popular sharp sword.

The serenity of the town is overwhelming. Animals chase each other through the streets and even the fish seem reluctant to make an appearance on the end of a tourist`s rod and line. The local armoury has been selling quality items for many generations now, and has a great range of stock. If you fancy a fashion change, why not blend into the local colour? The seasons bring their own fashion changes in Cove and the ancestry of the local population is easy to spot. Blonde, women have their hair in buns and men spot a rugged beard to keep out the mountain chills.

If picnics in cabbage fields is your idea of a great time, stop by in Cove for a 2 night break - you`ll come back relaxed and ready for action.
