2002-10-21: Sakura
サクラ（Sakura）はブナの林に奇妙な光る物を見つけた。激しい胸騒ぎがした。それが奇妙な物体ではなく、良く知っている物だったからだ。
「ムーンゲート・・・」ムーンゲートがここにある事の意味は、彼女には明らかだった。
「ママ？」
「ごめんなさい、ママちょっと用事があるの。先にパパの所に行っててくれる？」
「うん！ママも早くね！」笑顔で応え、見送ったサクラの顔は蒼白だった。サクラはムーンゲートに近づき、その向うへと一歩踏み出した。
「やあ・・・」男はばつが悪そうに声をかけた。
「本当にすまないと思っている。君は今はもう家族を持っている身だし、十分ソーサリアに身を捧げてきた。それに・・・」表情を変えず、自分を見つめるサクラを見て、大きくため息をついた。
「君に言い訳をしても仕方がない事だったな。これを見て欲しい」男はバッグから水晶を取り出した。
「これは・・・」それは水晶の破片だった。3つの破片が癒着しかけており、その間にもう一つの水晶ができあがりつつある様だった。
「そうだ。破片だ。3つの破片がお互いに結合しかけている。しかも信じられない事だが、その間にもう一つ破片が形成されかけている」
「あり得ないわ。砕いた時にその力も粉砕されたはず。自ら再生する事なんて・・・」
「私もそう思う。だが、破片は結合され、生成されようとしている。どうにか阻止しなければならない。最低でも結合だけは防がなければ」
サクラの顔は人形の様に白く、青ざめていた。破片に落としていた視線を男に戻した。男も顔色を失い、表情も窺う事ができなかった。二人の視線が合った時、男は言った。
「行ってもらえるか？」サクラも驚いた様子はなかった。
男の顔はいよいよ蒼白になっていた。視線は4つの水晶へと向けられていた。
「入りたまえ！」男は元気良く階下の声に応えた。
「失礼します市長。ちょっとご報告申し上げたい事が・・・」
「なんなりと言いたまえ。祈願碑兼醸造所の出来がすばらしく、私はもういつでも上機嫌だよ！ただ、建設地の地割れだけが少々心配の種ではあるが」
「そう、その地割れの事なのです、フィニガン（Finnigan）市長。突然地割れが消えてしまいました」フィニガンは立ち上がり言った。
「ほう！割れた地面が閉じるとは尋常ではありませんな！一体なにがあったのですか？」
男は頭を掻いて言った。
「それが・・・よく分からないのです。現場を視察に行くと、地割れが影も形もなくなっており、そこに桜の木が一本生えていました」フィニガンは男に背を向けた。
「奇妙。奇妙ですねそれは。何か見えざる力が働いたかの様な、何とも言えない奇怪さを感じますね」
男は本に書き留める準備をしながら尋ねた。
「調査団を編成なさいますか？」背を向けたままフィニガンは言った。
「そうですね・・・調査官を一人と助手を一人」
「・・・調査官と助手一人、ですか？」
「はい。二人で結構です。どうも私にはもはや何も手がかりが得られない様な、すばらしくも悲しい様な予感がするのです」
少し間をおいて、男が応えた。
「かしこまりました。すぐに手配いたします。あ、それともう一つ、スカラ・ブレイのクリフォード（Clifford）代表が行方不明との事です」
「卓越したレンジャーが行方不明とは。奇妙な事は続くものですね。必要であればいつでも捜査に協力するとスカラ・ブレイに連絡しておいて下さい」
男は岩に座っていた。いつから座っていたか、彼自身すぐには思い出せなかった。日が昇るのを7度までは数えていたが、その後はよく分からなくなっていた。不意に男は顔を上げた。遠くから羊の鳴き声が聞こえた。牧童が羊を追いながら、彼の前にさしかかった。
「旦那、随分深刻そうな顔をしてなさるが、追い剥ぎにでも会いなすったか？」男はぼんやりと牧童を見つめていたが、思い出した様に口を開いた。
「人を待っているんです」再び口を開くのに随分時間がかかった。
「どうしても会って、連れ帰らなければならないんです」
「はあ、待ち人ですか。もう随分経ちますか」男はまた応えるのに時間を要した。男の答えを聞いて牧童は鼻白み、男の膝に手を置いて話した。
「旦那、そのお方にはきっと事情がありなすったんだと思いますよ。一度お帰りなさい。旦那がどうにかなっちまう。なに、その方ともまたすぐ会えますよ」
ぽんと男の膝を叩き、酒を渡して牧童は歩いていった。牧童と羊の群れが道の向うに遠ざかり、小さくなって遂には消えても、男は動こうとしなかった。男はバッグの口を開いた。そこには4つの水晶の破片があった。4つともばらばらに、バッグの中に転がっていた。随分長い間、男は水晶を見つめていた。男は口を開いた。
「破片は守られた。彼の地に同じ名を持つ木を植えて、水晶にも名を残し、再び会う時まで君の記憶を残そう」
その直後男の姿は消えていた。水晶は後に発見されている。その水晶は誰ともなく名付けられ、今ではSakuraと呼ばれている。

"The shards are protected, plant trees with the same name in his place, leave a name on the crystal and leave your memory until we meet again."
Immediately afterwards the man was disappeared. Crystals have been discovered later. The crystal is named without anyone, now it is called Sakura.
