「すんごいもん見ちまったよ。」
これでもう何回目でしょう。夫は今日寝るまで同じ話を繰り返すのかしら、と彼女は思った。 突然のオークの襲撃に島を離れ妻の実家で暮らしていた二人だが、戦火が収まり町も落ち着いたと聞き数日前に戻ってきたばかりだった。飼っていた羊は殺され畑の作物も食い荒らされていたが、幸い家に火を放たれる事はなかった。
その日、夕食の支度もひとまず終わり一息入れていた所に夫が帰ってきた。
「いつもみたく街まで行商に行ったらよ、銀行の方が騒がしくて黒山の人だかりだろ？当然見に行くわな。そしたら最近街の警護に派遣されたとかいうロイヤルなんちゃらの指揮官がライキュームで人を集めてるってんだ。周りのやつらも見に行くってんでついて行ったんだよ。」
早口でまくし立てた男はここまで話すと一息ついてグラスを手に取った。
「ほら、お前もこの前話し掛けられたとか言ってたじゃねぇか。最近街の衛兵が探し回っている怪しい男だよ。どうやらそいつの居場所を見つけたんで、とっ捕まえに行こうって話だったらしいんだが・・・。」
ごくっと一気にグラスを空け、興奮覚めやらぬ面持ちで二杯目のグラスに手を伸ばした。
「まぁ遠くから眺めてりゃ良いかって、そのエレイン（Elaine）っつう指揮官が開いたゲートをくぐってみたんだ。エレインさんの指示でみんな小屋のドアを取り囲んでんだが鍵が開かないみたいでよ、俺は裏手の窓から中覗いてみたんだがローブ姿のそいつが声は聞こえないが何か呪文を唱えているようだった。で、気が付いたらドアの方に黒いでっかいのが見えたんだよ。」
「それがな、お前は見た事ないだろうが話には聞いた事あるだろう？ドラゴンってやつよ。腕っぷしの強そうな戦士達が頑張ってたんだがな。おれ？俺は離れて木陰から見てたよ。武器もなんも持ってなかったしな。いや、倒れたやつの手当てくらいはしてやったけどな。」
がははと大声で笑いながら四杯目を飲み干した夫を彼女は優しく眺めていた。あのオーク達から逃げおおせたのも夫のお陰だ。その夫が無事に帰って来てくれたその事を彼女は心から感謝していた。
「･･･そんな訳で俺たちは無事ドラゴンを倒した。例の男は･･･捕まえたんじゃないか？エレインさんが何か話しているのは見えたんだが、前に人が多すぎてよく聞こえなかったんだよ。それに時間が時間だったしな。お前を待たすわけにもいかないから帰って来ちまったよ。」
エレイン・ベイフェリー（Elaine Bayfery）はムーングロウから城へ帰ってくると早速評議会に顔を出していた。あのシャドーロード高等評議会メンバーを名乗る男から得た一つのルーンとミナックス（Minax）に関する情報は一刻も早く調査すべき内容だったからだ。

She was gently looking at her husband who dranked his fourth eyes while laughing loudly. It is thanks to my husband that I ran away from that oak. She thanked her that her husband came home safely.
